Official Records

The Clerk of the Circuit Court is the county recorder. Copies of marriage licenses, deeds, mortgages, and other instruments are on file in the recording office of the Gulf County Courthouse.

Official records can be accessed by visiting the Clerk’s Office in Port St. Joe, the Wewahitchka Annex office or online by clicking here. All official records are open to the public and anyone may obtain copies. If you are unable to supply the book and page of the instrument requested, you may use our public access computers or the index books at no charge to perform your own search.  Deputy clerks are available to assist the public in searching for information at the rate of $2.00 per year, per name. All official record copies printed in our office cost $1.00 per page. Certified copies require an additional $2.00 per document.

Proper preparation of documents lies with the customer, requirements can be found in Florida Statute 695.26. There may be other statutory requirements for making a conveyance valid, which are not within the scope of the recording office to dictate. Most blank document forms are available in our office, however, Gulf County Clerks cannot help you fill out your forms. We suggest that you contact a professional who is experienced with preparing documents to assist you. A deed is a written instrument that transfers the title of real estate from the Grantor to the Grantee and it is very important that the form is completed and reviewed by someone that is experienced with deed preparation.

Pursuant to Florida Statute 201.02 the Clerk of Courts is to collect documentary stamps on certain documents and pursuant to Florida Statute 201.08 the Clerk of Courts is to collect intangible tax on certain documents when recorded. Taxation and Finance “Excise Tax on Documents” is covered in Chapter 201 of the Florida Statutes.
